The
Infinite Resources of God
Last week we looked at becoming 'transformed by the renewing
of our minds' so we are able to live out our earthly existence
on a spiritual/biblical level. Let us now consider our role
in Revival, both on a personal level and also in His corporate
work of Revival. The word ‘revival’ literally means being revived
- a bringing back to consciousness.
Revival is always God centred! However, God uses ordinary men
and women to grow His kingdom here on earth, and each of us
needs to be 'prepared' so that we are ready to take part in
His mighty intervention. God tells us we are to wait in Jerusalem
until we are empowered from on high. In the meantime, the process
of Sanctification is the essential and ongoing cleansing, and
preparation for His work on earth.
Let us take a look at the four Infinite Resources of God that
makes revival always possible: The first is the infinite grace
of God; His unmerited favour. We were already proven guilty
and did not deserve to be pardoned, but Jesus took our punishment
and gave His life for all of our sins, past, present and future.
His love and mercy are greater than all the sin in the world.
'We are saved by Grace and not of good works, lest any man shall
boast.'
Second is The Word of God; living and active, sharper than any
two edged sword and able to penetrate even the hardest of hearts.
I always smile when I hear or read the words 'irresistible grace'
but that is just what it is. Who can withstand God and refuse
such an irresistible Offer? His promise to us; "My word, will
not return to me void." God's power is in the reconciling message
of The Cross. We are commanded to go and make disciples. We
must present the gospel message but it is always God who gives
the increase.
Our third resource is the mysterious regenerating and transforming
power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Through Him we have available
to us all the power and authority of Christ. Jesus says; "greater
things than these will you do." We are to work in partnership
with the Holy Spirit to become transformed into the person God
wants us to be. Jesus also says: "if you love me, you will obey
my commands." Obedience to the Word of God is not an option!
God pours out His grace individually and corporately, as we
respond in obedience to His Word.
Finally, there is the mighty power of prayer. Prayer changes
things. God responds too persistent, prevailing, broken hearted,
believing prayer.
When the Church of Jesus Christ takes full advantage of these
resources, we cannot avoid revival.
Blessings, Pat
